Middle / Senior Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 1 February, many students were lucky enough to take part in Northpine’s Annual Swimming Carnival. Being a nice break from studies, many students joyfully took part in a multitude of races, stirring up a great amount healthy competition between the three houses — Moreton, Fraser and Stradbroke. The grandstands consisted of a sea of green, yellow and red, with a constant flow of patriotic chants, cheers and screams filling up the centre – with Stradbroke working especially hard to try and draw the attention back to their house from Fraser, renowned for their sporting success in the past few years.

A definite highlight of the day was the ‘Belly Flop Competition’, where three students from each house had to painfully battle it out between each other for the best ‘water splat’. Though being challenging for the contestants, it certainly provided some awesome entertainment as well as lots of laughter, giving a few students a chance to show off their skills in a more unique sort of way. Jake Morris especially stood out with his jaw-dropping high flop, being declared the NCC Belly Flop Champion for 2017!

A special mention goes to the teachers who put in an over 40 yrs and under 40 yrs team this year to compete against the students. Both staff teams did very well and may have come first and second if it wasn’t for the significant extra drag that came from some of the bearded men!

Some of our long standing records were broken on the day with Stella Laws smashing the 12/U Girls 50 Free in 35.62 seconds, as well as the 12/U Girls 100 Free in 1:19.71 seconds. Taran Vardon broke the record for the 14 Boys 100 Free in a time of 1:10.31 seconds, and the Stradbroke Boys Intermediate Relay claimed the record in a time of 2:26.37 (Christian Morris, Brock Schloeffel, Jake Morris and Jaxon Tams).

A massive well done to Stradbroke House who were the Swimming Carnival House Champions for 2017! They won in convincing fashion by a considerable margin! Also well done to all the age champions on the day!

The day finished off even a little early, due to the efficiency and hard work from both teachers and house captains. The day would not have been possible if it wasn’t for their hard work.

Ultimately, the competitive spirit, friendly nature, team work and comedic banter between houses made it a swimming carnival which will be very hard to forget.
