Mountain Biking Student Excels
Mountain biking is not a sport for the fainthearted as you can see! This picture was taken during the last Gravity Enduro race at Garapine, which was the final race in the QLD state series. Gravity Enduro (also known as simply “Enduro”) is a UCI event where mountain bike riders are timed over five or six downhill stages with the lowest cumulative time being the winner. The only thing is you still have to ride yourself back to the top each time. Riders typically cover about 30km in a race and over 3km of vertical climbing and descending.
Huon has worked very hard over the past two years to achieve a very high level in his chosen discipline. In the recent National race in Rockhampton Huon placed 9th in under 17s, which is a fantastic result. This sport does not come without any injuries and Huon is often seen with bandages nursing his wounds from the weekend. He now has his sights on the National series next year and has started training and preparing for these events. He has even been able to pick up a few local sponsors, including Morayfield Super Cycles and other local motocross businesses. We wish Huon all the best as he continues to prepare for the next season of racing and also hope he can remain upright with no more broken bikes!
