Northpine Water Skiing Prodigy

Goondiwindi in Southern Queensland, home of the famous cotton plantations, provided the location for the 2018 Australian Water Ski National Championships.  Our very own Billy Smith, from 7A, represented Qld under 14 (U14) boys in the five days of spectacular competition over the Easter break.

Billy is an up and coming junior water skier, having successfully competed in slalom skiing in both the Queensland and Australian Championships this year!  He obtained a Personal Best (PB) in both competitions, and is displaying great potential for his skiing future.

After placing 4th overall in slalom skiing at the Queensland Titles for U14 boys, and qualifying for the National Championships, Billy secured an overall rating of 14th in Australia for U14 boys!  The National Championship was highly competitive with 27 talented U14 boys from all Australian States and Territories, pushing themselves significantly on the water, with new Australian records being made!

Billy has two younger siblings who also compete in tournament water skiing.  His younger brother Bryce won the Queensland Titles in under 10 boys slalom skiing and came second in trick skiing. He worked hard on the water in the National Championships to receive second place for under 10 boys in slalom skiing.  His younger sister Isabelle attained second place in the under 10 girls Queensland Titles in Slalom and trick skiing.

Billy can often be found helping coach and mentor other skiers, young and old.  His passion for the sport is displayed in his attitude and enthusiasm in and out of the water.

Billy trains weekly, combining skiing with football and swimming training, and competes in water ski tournaments most weekends during the ski season.

Billy is presently learning how to master the art of jump skiing and plans on adding this discipline to his future competitions.

Congratulations Billy and all the best for the new season!
