Principal’s Briefing

I would like to thank the teachers, parents and students of Yrs 2 and 7 who supported our church service at New Life this past weekend. The program was well received and I am really proud of the efforts of our students.

Exams for Yrs 7 -12 students will begin on Thursday this week and I urge you to be active in supporting your student/s as they prepare to sit these exams. Parent Teacher interview day is coming up on Thursday 28 June. More information on how to book an interview can be found HERE.

Our Yr 10 students will visit a work place of their choice for Work Experience in the week June 18-22. I would like to thank Mr Sheppard and his team as well as our parents and the Work Experience hosts for making the experience possible. Our Yr 10 students have some big decisions to make later in the year and we hope that this week will give them some real experiences to assist them as they plan for their future.

I would like to acknowledge the work of Mr Tams and Mr Sheppard as they have met with small groups of Yr 10 parents over the past week to give some detailed information about the new Queensland Certificate of Education and the roll out of the move from Overall Position (OP) to the Australian Tertiary Admissions Register (ATAR). This is an important change to Senior Schooling and we want to do all we can to share the new ways of thinking associated with this change.

I am told that from time to time parents are ignoring the sign just east of the pool that asks parents not to drive up past the pool during school hours. We specifically ask that this instruction be followed because students are active in that area during school hours and it is imperative for their safety that all parents follow this request at all times.

Our Junior School (Yrs 3-6) students will enjoy their Inter-house Athletics Carnival this Thursday. Thanks to Mr Wood-Johnson and the teaching team for preparing this day for us. Parents are invited to come along and support their students as happens every year and we look forward to a fun day for all.

Thanks for reading our news and have a great week.

-Mr Graham Baird, Principal
