Dustin Dever

  1. What class or classes do you teach?

Yr 8/9 Outdoor Education, Yr 9/10 HPE and Challenge – The Next Step

  1. How long have you been working at Northpine?

3.5 years

  1. How did you first discover you wanted to be a teacher?

At the end of Year 12, the night before my university preferences were due I was led to change all my preferences from Engineering and Architecture to teaching! And then throughout university I was reminded that this was in fact what God wanted me to do.

  1. Where are you originally from?

Melbourne.

  1. What might we be surprised to know about you?

I rode a push bike through Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

  1. If you could time travel, where and when would you go?

Back to Jesus’ time to see first hand the nature of God and follow, learn and become covered in the dust of Jesus.

  1. What’s one great book or movie you’ve read or seen recently?

The Barbarian Way by Erwin Raphael McManus. It uncovers how Christianity is filled with risk, passion, spirit and sacrifice rather than conformity.

  1. Which person, directly or indirectly, has inspired you the most?

There have been many but everyone of them has been a man or woman who is strongly connected to God.

  1. What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

The Franklin River in Tasmania’s World Heritage National Parks, closely followed by skiing in Zermatt, Switzerland.

  1. What is the best advice that you can give to your students?

John 16:33, “In this world there will be trouble but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.”

Courtney Hutton

  1. What class or classes do you teach?

I have the privilege of teaching the 4-6 year old Prep students!

  1. How long have you been working at Northpine?

This is my 5th year working at Northpine.

  1. How did you first discover you wanted to be a teacher?

Funnily enough, as a child I always said I would never be a teacher. My father was a Principal for many years and my mother is still a primary teacher – I knew what was involved! During Year 12 I volunteered at the Northpine Child Care & Early Learning Centre. Teaching must be in my genes because I discovered a love for working with kids! I worked at the Centre full time after finishing school and then went on to study Primary Teaching.

  1. Where are you originally from?

I was born in Rockhampton. I began my first few years at school in Ipswich and then moved to Brisbane where I completed school at Northpine.

  1. What might we be surprised to know about you?

I have a big fear of hairy spiders and heights!

  1. If you could time travel, where and when would you go?

I absolutely love overseas travel so this question is very challenging! Something on my bucket list would be to travel to Scotland, where both sides of my family originate from. My father’s family were the official hunters for William the Conqueror and still reside in the castle from that period.

  1. What’s one great book or movie you’ve read or seen recently?

I really enjoy reading and watching things based on true events or people. I think we can learn a lot from history! The most incredible life story I have read is that of Louis Zamperini. He started out getting in trouble a lot at school, turned into an Olympic distance runner and then survived against incredible odds as a POW in WW2. He gave his life to God after the war and then dedicated it to forgiving his Japanese captors and founded a camp for troubled youth. His story was turned into the movie Unbroken. Incredibly, the real events had to be ‘toned down’ for the movie or it wouldn’t have been believable!

  1. Which person, directly or indirectly, has inspired you the most?

Job from the Bible had some big challenges in life but still kept his faith in God. My grandmother is a very positive and caring lady, who has dedicated her life to volunteering and helping others.

  1. What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

I have been blessed to travel a lot of the world as a child and adult, so picking the most beautiful is very hard! I think some stand out places have been Lake Bled in Slovenia and the national parks in Croatia and America.

  1. What is the best advice that you can give to your students?

Always do your best and never give up!
