Principal’s Address

Greetings Northpine Community,

Once again it is a pleasure to be a part of the Northpine family and the ‘never a dull moment’ world that we live in. Classes have settled in for the year and once again, we are grateful for a team that not only works together but also prays together. As a whole school, we come together 3 times a week, in staff worship to pray and give thanks for you, your children, and us as we serve you through our teaching and support.

Secondary Week of Worship

I have to start with our Secondary WOW (Week of Worship). What an incredible time this was for us all. The chaplaincy team went out of their way to make the place not only look amazing but be amazing. The bands, the ‘shark tank’ game time show, and the speaker came together to further our students’ spiritual journey here at NCC.
On the final day of our program, 39 of our students put their names down for baptism and a further 47 requested Bible studies.  Praise God!

Northpine Open Morning

NCC held its first open morning for the year on the morning of the 6th. This was a wonderful way to showcase our school and all that is happening here. We had 66 people sign up for this event.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Excitement is growing for our 2024 musical production, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students are rehearsing 2x per week and are beginning to look and sound great! The show will take place in week 1 of term 3. Please be sure to book early to see this amazing production.

The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ‘Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will’.  My prayer is that you will find the time and the moments to give God thanks this week.

Blessings for the coming weeks,

Cultivating a Kingdom Culture – Secondary WOW 2024

As Term 1 comes to a close and we get to sit back and think upon the highlights of this amazing start to our year, our minds replay one particular event – our Secondary Week of Worship.  During Week 6, Northpine’s Middle and Senior School came together to participate in our annual Week of Worship or “WOW” as we call it. We had the privilege of having Pr Roland Talamaivao-Amituanai from Adelaide speak to the students each day, highlighting the theme of the week “Kingdom Culture” and how our students can apply this in their everyday lives.

Each day started with an ice-breaker called “Shark Tank” where students were given a task to create a product based on the day’s theme. They then had to pitch their product to the sharks and convince the sharks to invest in their product.  It was awesome to see the creativity and confidence of each student who volunteered to be a part of this activity.

We were also so proud to have a completely student-run band for this year’s program.  Our Middle and Senior School Worship bands truly went above and beyond with their praise and it was a blessing to see so many new students wanting to be involved this year.

On the final Friday, Pr Roland put forth a call, encouraging any students wanting to give their heart and hands to one of 4 amazing service areas, to put their name on their chosen board. Each board represented a different aspect of “Kingdom Culture”, from Heart of Service, Bible Studies and Baptism, to how they would like to dedicate their future career to God.  From this alter call, we had an outstanding number of students seeking out this higher level of spiritual connection with 39 students putting their name down for baptism, 47 for further Bible Studies, 100 students wanting to offer their time in service and 50 students wanting to find a way to include God in their career paths.  Praise God!

Although Friday was our final school day of WOW, our College Church Refresh held our final Week of Worship program.  We had a great turnout by students & their families and we hope they were as blessed as we were.

Our Chaplaincy is busy preparing for our Primary WOW kicking off next week where we have Pr Leathan Fitzpatrick sharing with our primary students the theme of “Limitless”!  We cannot wait to see you all there.

Down & Dirty for Our Year 8 Camp

Our Year 8 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure during their recent camp, where they not only explored nature and participated in WW2 themed activities but also discovered the true essence of bravery, teamwork, and leadership.

Our annual camp to Emu Gully is centered around our Year 8 Invictus program that aims to foster and grow resilient men and women. The camp provided a brilliant opportunity for our students to demonstrate their courage as they worked as one to complete daring activities and obstacles.  These feats all culminated with a crawl through the infamous Kokoda Trail Mud Crawl.

I’d like to thank our Year 8s for their resilient nature during our camp, and I hope they are able to demonstrate some of the lessons learnt during camp at home and at school. Thank you as well to our dedicated staff members (Mrs Green, Mrs Hedges, Mrs McAndrew, Miss Watts, Mr Southon, Miss Edser and Pastor Shaun) for facilitating such an amazing memory for our students!

National Young Leaders Day

Our School Captains, along with Middle School Leaders and Assistant Leaders, recently attended the National Young Leaders Day. This event proved to be an exciting experience, providing our students with valuable insights and tools to cultivate their leadership skills.

A highlight of the National Young Leaders Day was the diverse array of presenters who have excelled in different areas. Our students were captivated and inspired by the stories and insights shared by these accomplished individuals.

The presenters included:

Anastasia Woolmer: Twice crowned the ‘Australian Memory Champion’ and well known from the ‘Champions’ Tribe on the special ‘Champions v Contenders’ season of Survivor.

Lachie Smart: At just 18 years of age he made history when he became the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a single engine aircraft.

Eva Amores & Matt Cosgrove: Co-authors of the ‘Worst Week Ever’ book series which has been published in over 30 countries and languages.

Ben Polson: Australian’s first Ninja Warrior Champion, with a powerful story of overcoming adversity through both sport and music.

The presenters showcased the endless possibilities that await those who dare to dream big and work hard. Our Northpine leaders were inspired in their journey of serving as leaders this year.

Term 1 Parents & Friends Association Wrapped!

Our P&F team has had a busy start to 2024 supporting your school community.  We would like to give you a small snapshot of all the amazing things we have been able to accomplish thanks to your support!

Meet and Greet

We served drinks and offered an ear to all our new families on their first day of school. This was a great opportunity for new families to meet our team and hear how they can be involved.

First Meeting

We held our first meeting for the year on Wednesday 6th February in the College library. We enjoyed sharing ideas and getting inspired for the year ahead over pizzas. Please see the attached minutes for further details: https://www.facebook.com/NCC.PFA. Some of the outcomes from the meeting were our Volunteer Morning Tea, discussions around financial support towards the school musical, and planning for Mother’s Day.

Financial Contributions

The P&F through our fundraising platforms has recently funded the purchase of a new Viola for the Music Department. By making this instrument available to our students, it is opening more opportunities and possibilities to our college community. We also funded a guitar for our Chaplaincy team. This guitar is making it possible for students who had wanted to participate in the Chapel band but didn’t have access to a guitar at school.

Subway Day

We held a fundraising event on 27th of February where the students had the opportunity to purchase Subway for lunch. We placed 337 orders and had some very happy students enjoying having a special treat!

Volunteer’s Morning Tea

We held a Volunteer Morning Tea on the 28th February. This was an opportunity for families to mingle and sign up for areas they can contribute to the college community. If you missed the morning tea, but would like ‘sign up’ to help in any small capacity please email: secretary.northpinepnf@gmail.com

P&F Committee Upcoming Events & Meetings

Annual Hot Cross Bun Easter Gift – The P&F community wishes to recognise the significance of Easter and sacrifice Jesus made when He gave His life for our sins. The P&F do this by gifting each student a hot cross bun on the last day of the school term. The hot cross bun symbolises Easter through the cross representing the crucifixion of Jesus and the spices inside the bun symbolising the spices that were put on the body of Jesus after He died. We will be needing assistance with bagging and distributing these. If you feel this may be an area you can contribute some time too, please email: secretary.northpinepnf@gmail.com

Mother’s Day Stall Preparation – The committee are busy purchasing the gifts and organising the running of the event. Every activity that is put on by the committee has alot of thought and planning and as we all know ‘many hands, make for light work’. If you feel you may be able to contribute to this event please email: secretary.northpinepnf@gmail.com

Upcoming Meetings – Committee Meetings will be on the following Tuesday nights at 6:30PM in the College Library.  Everyone is welcome to join us!  Requests for discussion/agenda items must be made to northpinepnf@gmail.com. Agenda items are to be presented for discussion by the requesting member.  Our 2024 Meeting dates are as follows:

  • 23 April
  • 28 May
  • 23 July
  • 20 August
  • 15 October
  • 12 November (AGM)

We would love to have you join our team and be a part of this journey, by either coming to the friendly committee meetings or assisting in one of our many community events. There is absolutely no commitment required! Reach out at northpinepnf@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like further information.  You can also follow us on Facebook to stay updated on all P&F events as well as to connect with our community: Northpine Christian College Parents & Friends Association

Northpine Library Spreads the Love! Library Lovers Week

During Week 4 (12th -16th Feb) any students who borrowed extra books (outside of the normal class borrowing time), had their names go into a draw for gift card prize from Dymocks Bookshop at North Lakes.

There were 127 names entered into the competition. Annabella Green from Yr 11 was our winner. Congratulations Annabella, enjoy looking for your book at the Bookshop.

The competition was very popular!  We encourage you to keep an eye out for details during the year for the next one.

The library was also decorated during the week and a huge thank you to Mrs Narelle from OSHC, who helped with the balloon decorations.

Each student was also given an opportunity to write a note on a heart what they love about the library. All the hearts went on display on the window inside the library area. Thank you for all the special notes, it warmed my heart.

The library has been a very popular place during lunch time this term. Some days we have had over 100 students from Yr 1-12! Having a longer lunch break has seen more students engage in a variety of card & table games, chess, and Lego.

Our last week of borrowing for Term 1, will be Week 8.

Castles of Fun for Our Prep Families – Refresh Church Highlights

On February 17th, an enchanting transformation took place within the walls of the Northpine Performing Arts building as Refresh, our campus church, turned it into the Castle of Courage. From the resonating call of the town crier to the antics of our court jester and the regal presence of knights and kings, it was a morning filled with wonder and delight.

Included in the fun were crafts, face painting, songs, games, and stories. Our message acted out by all the kids took center stage, telling the story of Joshua 3:7-17, where Joshua courageously led the Israelites across the tumultuous waters of the Jordan River.

The message concluded with an action plan for when we face something hard:

  1. Be strong and courageous.
  2. Follow where God leads.
  3. Do hard things.

While our New Prep families were the focus of this special day, it was awesome to see the enjoyment shared by all, especially as they departed with gift bags in hand.

Refresh Northpine Community Church extends an open invitation to all who seek a faith community to call their own. Join us every Saturday morning at 9:45am for Coffee and Breakfast, followed by our uplifting service at 10:30am. We cater to diverse needs, with tailored programs for adults, teens, primary students, and infants, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Come and experience the warmth of our Refresh Church community – A Place to Belong.

Primary Grip Conference

On Feb 22nd, we had the pleasure of attending the GRIP Leadership Conference Day! Student Leaders from our Primary School got this amazing chance to spend a day soaking in tons of ideas to lead our school better this year. It was like a brain boost for leadership!

We played games and made friends with students from other schools, which made the long trip to the Sunshine Coast totally worth it. They handed out this awesome activity book that saved the day! We jotted down all the cool ideas we got from other students who attended the conference.

If you got to go on stage, you were given these awesome free badges!  The presenters were great and offered us so many important leadership nuggets. Our favourite presenter was Andy; he turned the whole day into a big, fun day.

We believe lots of student leaders left the Conference feeling inspired to take all the ideas learned back to their own schools. A big thank you to our school for giving us this chance! We can’t wait to start using some of the cool ideas we picked up at the Conference at Northpine.

Out and About with our Prep Classes

The start of 2024 has been great in Prep. We have had lots of fun experiences to enhance our learning. One of these is the Teddy Bear’s Picnic excursion at Creek Park. Everyone brought their special soft toy along to the picnic and we enjoyed a coach ride in a big bus, a snack and a play on the play equipment. Despite the extreme heat, fun was had by everyone. A lot of tired Prep students returned to school clutching their Teddy with big smiles on their faces.

Last week in phonics we learnt the ‘P’ sound. On Friday everyone in Prep came to school dressed in their pyjamas. We had a giggle when we did a ‘Pyjama Parade’ for our buddies during Gross Motor. Making the ‘Teddy In Bed’ cookie was a bit messy but fun as we got to take it home for a tasty afternoon treat. We finished off our Pyjama Day with songs, stories and a pyjama craft. There was also no need for anyone in Prep to change into their pyjamas when we got into bed on Friday night! We loved our Pyjama Day.

Flying High in Physics

Year 12 Physics students experienced the thrill of skydiving when they attended Brisbane’s iFly indoor skydiving experience as part of their studies this term. The excursion combined investigation of theoretical concepts about the motion of falling objects with practical activities. Actual measurements of the surface areas of their body was used to calculate the expected terminal velocity they would reach if skydiving, then a flight in the wind tunnel enabled them to measure the actual wind speed as a comparison. Students all agreed the experience was a blast and helped to strengthen their understanding of what they had studied in class.
